Steve Earle tribute to Townes Van Zandt

One of my favorite live albums is Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark Together at The Blue Bird Cafe. So it's not a surprise that Steve Earle again will pay tribute to his friend, mentor and hero and one of the great songwriters of all-time Townes Van Zandt in his new album called simply Townes. It will be available as a deluxe two-CD set and limited edition double 180-gram vinyl. The album which is 15-tracks will feature Steve and son Justin Townes Earle singing together on "Mr. Mudd and Mr. Gold" and also will have appearances by Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine/The Nightwatchman, Steve's wife Allison Moorer, Dennis Crouch, Tim O'Brien, Darrel Scott, and Shad Cobb

"This may be one of the best records I've ever made," he said in a statement. "That hurts a singer-songwriter's feelings. Then again, it's some consolation that I cherry picked through the career of one of the best songwriters that ever lived."

Townes is set for release on May 12th via New West Records.

Check Steve Earle's website to previews 2 tracks.

Here is the list of song on the album:

Watch Out For The Spurs

As you may know the Spurs are my favorite basketball team. The Spurs have blessed its fans with 4 NBA titles over the last 9 years. While many basketball critics and so called experts had written the Spurs off and said their window for another title closed last year after the lose to the Lakers. Well that window seems to be opening again as if it can really ever close when Timmy is around. Here are reasons to watch out for them down the stretch and into the playoffs.
1) Tim Duncan - He is playing his best basketball in the past 5 years. He appears to be freshers and quicker than he has been in the past years. This alone is bad news for the rest of the league.
2) Tony Parker - He continues to improve his game, averaging career highs in both scoring and assists. He is becoming more and more of a quarterback on the floor.
3) Manu Ginobili - After off season ankle surgery he is finally regaining his aggressiveness and explosiveness with a healthy Ginobili last year the Spurs would probably have been playing for the title.
4) Supporting Cast - Roger Mason, Matt Bonner, George Hill all have added an extra deminsion to the team Mason and Bonner both are shooting for a career high from 3pt range add that to the shooting of Finley and Bowen spreads the floor and open things up for Duncan as well as the lane for Parker and Ginobili. Hill has added a young and athletic backup to Parker and his play has been big.
5) Gregg Popovich - Pop is a master at building the team as the season progresses and makes decision with the playoffs in mind.

Since 2009 the Spurs are 15-4 and that includes the one close loss to Denver in witch Pop rested the big 3.

Randy Roger Band Tonight on Letterman

I have been following the Randy Rogers Band for along time now all the way back to the early days when they only had one album out. So tonight as they make an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman I can't help but think back to 6 or 7 years ago to the first time I saw Randy Rogers play I remember thinking he could be part of the next wave of Texas Music. Make sure you tune in tonight or set your TIVO to record it. Check the Randy Rogers Band out at their web site or MySpace

American Graveyard

American Graveyard performing Doin' Time

This past Saturday during the Sam's Happy Hour I saw a very cool band called American Graveyard. This band from Austin, Texas blends bluegrass, country, rock-n-roll with punkrock and blues to create some cool music. I would describe it as swampy hillbilly rock music. Watching them on stage was great as the drum set was simple and had a Jim Beam bottle hanging next to the symble and their set was mixed with banjo, mandolin, swampy slide guitar, and blues harm. They have one album out called "Rough Around The Edges" and are currently working on their second one. Make sure you go check them out at a live show. They play around Austin and they will be back at Sam's Burger Joint Music Hall sometime in March. Check them out at their MySpace.
