One of my favorite live albums is Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark Together at The Blue Bird Cafe. So it's not a surprise that Steve Earle again will pay tribute to his friend, mentor and hero and one of the great songwriters of all-time Townes Van Zandt in his new album called simply Townes. It will be available as a deluxe two-CD set and limited edition double 180-gram vinyl. The album which is 15-tracks will feature Steve and son Justin Townes Earle singing together on "Mr. Mudd and Mr. Gold" and also will have appearances by Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine/The Nightwatchman, Steve's wife Allison Moorer, Dennis Crouch, Tim O'Brien, Darrel Scott, and Shad Cobb"This may be one of the best records I've ever made," he said in a statement. "That hurts a singer-songwriter's feelings. Then again, it's some consolation that I cherry picked through the career of one of the best songwriters that ever lived."
Townes is set for release on May 12th via New West Records.
